Time Capsules

I was poking around Facebook today and one of my friends had filled out a “Getting to Know You” questionnaire, and I thought it to be a fun idea to do, especially since I feel like I’ve met so many new people and was curious about getting to know some of them better as well (see new FB status).  The thing that I didn’t realize is that I had done this same questionnaire in 2009, before I had moved to San Francisco, Hong Kong, or Bangkok.  It was startling to see how some of the answers had stayed the same, and how I had changed.  The most interesting thing to see was the change in the MANNER in which I answered some of the questions.  The voice had changed.  It was great to see some personal growth take place over the last four years.

This got me thinking that it would be a great idea to answer some questions for yourself each year, either on your birthday or perhaps, as the year comes to a close.  Then, storing it somewhere on say, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Evernote, you’d be able to create a new copy for yourself so that you can archive some of the bigger details of your life. 🙂

After some thinking…  here’s a list of questions that I’ve come up with.

  • What is the date?
  • Where are you now?
  • What is your profession?
  • Who is the President of the United States?
  • What was the biggest news of the year?
  • Who are you in love with?
  • Who are your five closest friends?
  • What do you want your next trip to be?
  • What are you most worried about?
  • What is one amazing thing you expect to do in the coming year?
  • What is your favorite recent memory?
  • What were the top 3 accomplishments from the last year?
  • What made you laugh the hardest most recently?
  • What made you the most sad this year?
  • What are the more important questions in your life at the moment?
  • What are the five things you couldn’t live without?
  • What would you want to tell your future self?
  • What have you learned this year?
  • What are you best at?  What do you think are you greatest assets and skills?
  • What are your life goals at the moment?   Did you make any progress on them?
  • What are your wishes for the upcoming year?
  • What do you think you will be doing this time next year?
  • What do you think will change about you over the next year?  How do you want to grow?
  • What is your purpose in life?

As we continue to know ourselves more deeply, it’s good to continue probing ourselves to truly know what our heart’s desire is.  Recording some of these questions and learning is something that I have not been good at to date, and I’m excited to get started.  🙂
